Ways to achieve inner happiness

Looking after your mental health is just as important as your physical health. There are many things we can do to make ourselves feel better, such as taking up a hobby, giving ourselves a makeover, getting some fresh air or enjoying a good book, which are all great examples, but some of us like to do things a little differently.

Some people find that getting a new tattoo of something meaningful to themselves can perk them up, with the added bonus that it is always there to look at, a reminder of a special event or person will be with them always.

Tattoos

Tattoos used to have a little stigma attached to them. It was considered that those who had tattoos were troublemakers with no respect for their bodies or anything else, but nowadays that has all changed.

Tattoos are not just for the young and carefree any more; everyone is getting one. Regardless of age or culture, tattoos are gaining in popularity. Those with an artistic flair can even train to be tattooists, and if it brings you joy and helps you feel good about yourself, then why not?

Jewellery

Others enjoy making jewellery, wire wrapping with beads or even silversmithing, among other things. Many have reported that the simple act of soldering then texturing their item with a hammer can release so much tension, leading to an immediate sense of calm.

It is especially fun as you get to keep and wear a piece of jewellery that you have handmade yourself. It can give you a sense of pride and joy, especially when other people notice it and compliment you. You can take lessons to be sure it is for you before paying out for expensive equipment, then get lost in the world of jewellery making, adding stones and embellishments as you grow in confidence and ability.

General well-being

Getting a makeover can also include a Motiva treatment, changing our hairstyle or something a little more simple, such as a manicure. Facials and reflexology are also great for a little pampering and feel good session. When we know we look good on the outside, we feel great on the inside.

Anything you can do to make yourself feel good about yourself is a bonus; it can build your confidence and boost your self esteem, so whether you choose to make some changes via plastic surgery or tattooist’s gun, take up watercolour painting or learn to dance, give it your all. If you don’t have the mobility to do something energetic, try meditation, simple yoga or chair exercises. Adapt your plans to suit your capabilities. If you struggle, you won’t enjoy it and that defeats the object you are trying to achieve.

So, if it doesn’t work out, try something else and keep trying until you find the key to your own happiness.
